Keane – Cause and Effect Tour – 2019

October 5th 2019 – Brighton Centre

Supported by: Marie White

Oooo, an away gig. A little trip down to Brighton for see Keane.

Having seen Tom Chaplin playing Queen songs in April, we were now, quite excited about a full band tour.

Also, a bit of an anniversary trip for us (October 6th) and of course a good mosey around Brighton and the Lanes…and I dragged Nicola to The Prestonville Arms, who are renowned for their food…..except they weren’t cooking the day we turned up!! Very nice beer though! I also believe it to be the local of Monty Oxymoron of The Damned……he wasn’t in either! Crap timing all round!!

We then headed back into Brighton to find food and for a wander around the town and of course, The Lanes. No sign of my Damned heroes in town (Captain Sensible and Monty Oxymoron are locals), but a fun time in a great town.

Marie White

The evening started with Marie White, now we came across her by accident at Glastonbury 2019, earlier in the year as part of the BBC Emerging Talent Competition, which she won.

This is a fascinating interview in her home town of Hastings, so Brighton was nearly a home gig.

She has an extremely strong voice and a passion for writing songs about her own life (not as bitter as Alanis Morrisette, but not all fun and dance either)

Really enjoyed seeing her getting a chance on the big stage and the audience really enjoyed it and her interaction with the crowd.

Keane

We were to the side of the stage, which isn’t my favoured spot (centre middle or the the guitarist side), but actually the sound was good and the guys were pretty animated around the stage, so you saw a great deal.

It was crazy how many songs they got through, but they have generally stuck to fairly short, sharp, punchy, 3-4 minute melodic songs.

This was also nearly a home gig as the boys grew up in Battle, East Sussex and Tom being born in Hastings.

Really good mix of songs from their 5 albums to date and Tom was on fine form keeping the crowd involved, in fact, he doesn’t half like a chat!!! Plenty of reminiscing about cricket tours that the boys went on in years gone by.

Quite a few slower numbers, which might be why i’d not thought of them as a live band before now….but the livelier numbers, such as “Everybody’s Changing”, “Is It Any Wonder?” and “Sovereign Light Café” got the crown up and moivng.

Really fun night out.
